Gazely Eco-Template, Sustainable development in Large Scale Commercial Buildings
In 2004 Gazeley launched an EcoTemplate for developing environmentally and socially responsible warehousing at low cost across Europe and the rest of the world; the groundbreaking research, shows that at a cost of just 50p more per sq ft on standard industry build costs significant environmental improvements can be made covering landscape issues; C02 emissions; energy savings; water usage; recyclable and prefabricated materials. EcoTemplate re-examines current construction practices and makes recommendations for everything from grass and polycarbonate roofs, and natural ventilation to wind and solar power and roof water collection mechanisms.
Eco-Template is based on a belief that Gazeley, together with its customers can make a difference to the environment by the wide scale systematic global implementation of the Eco-Template with a focus on environmental and social performance. Gazeley are now a Global provider of Sustainable warehouses and sheds, based on a master planning template.
The EcoTemplate offers a range of flexible options, 11 were used at a new logistics facility currently in Bedford UK, the first Eco-template project in 2004/5. Water usage reduced by 700,000 litres (<45%), CO2 emissions 156 tonnes CO2 (<6.2%), energy usage 364 MWhrs (<6.2%), and 6% of the energy production from natural resources. Other newer EcoTemplate buildings in Europe have stretched the CO2 savings up to 40% and renewable energy ratio up to 30%. The longer term objective is to develop carbon neutral buildings, acting as both logistics hub and shelter, renewable energy power plant and diverse habitat for flora & fauna.
